WhatsApp usWhat kind of homes are in Crewe?
Crewe grew with the railway, and streets near the centre are still Victorian and Edwardian terraces with narrow recessed doorways. Those central terraces are not Crewe Green. Crewe Green is a separate village to the east of the town. Further out are inter-war semis near Queen’s Park and large modern estates in Wistaston, Leighton, Shavington and towards Haslington.
Do I need planning permission for new windows in Crewe?
Crewe Green, the village east of Crewe, is the conservation area. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces near the centre are the old railway streets, and they are not in Crewe Green. Queen’s Park is a park and a neighbourhood of houses, not that conservation area. Most other Crewe houses have no special controls, so a similar replacement is usually permitted development. Some buildings are listed. We check the address rather than assume.
Where we work in Crewe
The terraces near the centre, then the estates at Queen’s Park, Wistaston, Leighton, Shavington and Willaston. Crewe Green village is east of those streets and is surveyed as its own place. We also cover the roads towards Nantwich and Sandbach.
Choosing windows and doors for a Crewe home
Terraces need casements or sash-style windows with traditional proportions, in A+ rated uPVC with 28mm argon-filled glazing. Newer estates take modern casements in white or grey.
What we plan for in Crewe
Composite doors for the narrow porch openings have an Ultion lock and a multi-point locking system. French doors are the usual garden upgrade on the later estates, where the original patio door is ready to go.
Many terraces open onto the pavement, with the frames coming through the house. We plan that route at the survey.
Popular projects in Crewe
- Traditional casements for railway terraces
- Composite doors for recessed porches, with an Ultion lock
- French doors on estates in Leighton and Shavington
Look at uPVC windows and French and patio doors, then composite doors if the porch is the problem. The area hub links every town, and the Ultion lock explains the guarantee in Ultion’s own words.
