French doors for Trafford terraces and semis

Two leaves that open wide, with no post in the middle, suit a terrace in Altrincham, a semi in Urmston or Flixton, and a new extension where you still want a door rather than a slider. The aluminium frame is slimmer than uPVC, so you see more of the garden when the doors are shut.

We supply and fit AluK's Optio 58BD double door. It can open in or out, and it can take fixed side lights. Dual colour lets the inside follow the room and the outside follow the brick. A low threshold is an option where a step would get in the way. Multi-point locking comes as standard. Match the door to aluminium windows if those are changing on the same house.

uPVC French doors, including any lock specified for those doors, are on the uPVC doors page. Our own fitting team measures this aluminium door at a free survey. A front door in the same aluminium finish can be quoted at the same time.

Questions

Open in or out for a small Timperley patio?

On a small patio, opening in usually keeps the outside path clear. Opening out suits a deeper garden, where the leaves will not block a step or a bin store. We decide that with you at the survey, from the way you use the door.

Can French doors replace an old window?

Sometimes. The opening has to be tall enough for a door, and the lintel has to suit it. If the brickwork needs to change, that is a builder's job before we fit. We tell you which it is after we measure.

Can we add side panels?

Yes, where the opening is wide enough. Fixed side lights sit beside the two leaves. A narrow terrace opening in Altrincham or Flixton often stays as the two leaves only.

Aluminium or uPVC French doors in a conservation area?

The council decides what that street allows. In a conservation area we check the address before we specify a frame, and we will tell you if you should ask the council before we order. uPVC French doors are a separate page.
